Side talk: Not your regular kpop songs

When we talk about kpop, we often relate it to Girls Generation (SNSD), Super Junior (Suju), Big Bang, 2NE1, AOA, EXO and many more.

I have been into kpop for 10 years already and I have listened to various genre of music in the kpop industry. I believe some songs deserve more recognition. For this post I hope to be able to share or introduce fantastic songs that could spice up your playlist.

Lets start with one of my favourite album of all time:

Blue Brand is a hip-hop album project that compiled various hip-hop songs from by hip hop legends. Verbal Jint, Dynamic Duo, Supreme Team, Dok2, K.Will, and many more. The song lineup is simply fantastic. There are two volume to this album. The first volume was released in 2009 while volume two release in 2010. Below are some great songs you can find in the two volumes!

Kim Jin Pyo (feat Jan Di) - How to be cool when you breakup

Supreme Team (feat Soulman) - You're to blam

Supreme Team (feat Soulman) - Because of you

Supreme Team is a hip hop duo name Simon D. and E-Sans. Unfortunately, the group disbanded recently as E-Sans terminated his contract with Amoeba Culture. Also, E-sans is involved with a marijuana scandal. I really like their songs and they are pretty nice to listen to despite the long rapping.

Here is another of my favourite song from one of Supreme Team album.

Supreme Team (feat Young Jun) - Then Then Then

Another artist you should check out it TETE (테테). His music is very relaxing and definitely worth listening during the nights and ranning days. I really like Floral ran by TETE especially the remix version. The remix version is an eargasm. Do change

테테 (TETE) - Floral Rain

Tete (테테) - Floral Rain (Acid Punk Dynamite Remix)

Lastly, I would like to introduce all of you to Standing Egg. Its a well known k-indie group but some of you may not be familiar with them. Nonetheless, do check out Farewell For You, Not Yet For Me by Standing Egg.

Standing Egg - Farewell For You, Not Yet For Me

Thats the end of this week side talk. What do all think of the songs I have recommended? Do leave your comments!

Side-talk: The Ramen Stall at 787 North Bridge Road

Recently I heard raves about this newly halal food establisment that sells Japanese. I see pictures of their food on various social networking platform like facebook and instagram (especially instagram). Although Singapore has sizable a muslim population, it is not easy to get halal japanese food here; especially good ones. This is because japanese usually uses mirin and pork broth in their cookings. The newly halal restaurant that I am referring to is call The Ramen Stall, located at 787 North Bridge Road. When I heard that still stall sells halal ramen, I was really excited because I am avid viewer of Japanese Hour on Channelnewsasia and often see people eating ramens. I have never tasted japanese ramen simply because it is difficult to get halal ones. I even considered going to Tokyo to get taste of halal ramen there.

So yesterday I decided to give it a try after work. The place is located all the same street as Zam Zam. I was expecting a crowd since it is newly halal certified and I was right about 7.30pm and there was already a long queue. My friend and I then comtemplated whether we should go to Afterwit which was located nearby and serves Mexican food. Alas, we decided to queue up. Fortunately, we got a seat after 10 minutes becauses there was only two of us. Those who came in big groups in front of us has to wait longer.

Side-Talk: Butterscotch Cafe

Today I am going to blog about my dining experience at Butterscotch Cafe. I have seen photos of dishes from this cafe. The food looks visually appetizing. But it is a little out of the way. When I heard my friend's office is near this cafe, we decided to have our long overdue meet up here. It is located at Bukit Merah area. It is about 10 mins walk from Redhill MRT station. Fortunately, my friend and I did not get lost even when it is out first time and it was at night. When we reached there, both us agreed that it was an unexpected place to find a cafe. The place was much more 'ulu' than I expected haha.

Side-Talk: Rilek 1 Korner at Punggol Settlement

I have been lots of side talk on eateries haven't I? Here is another one.

My friend and I decided to go for cycling one. Our starting point was opposite Compass Point and our goal was the Punggol Settlement. We went through the cycling path that passes by the Punggol Waterway and Waterway Woodcress. It was a long route but the scenery was great. Luckily the weather was relatively cloudy.

Once we reached Punggol Settlement, we looked for a place to park of bikes but to no avail. I find it puzzling for such a park to not have anywhere to park the bike. We decide to bring up our bike to the second floor of Punggol Settlement where Rilek 1 Korner is located…it was pretty embarrassing haha.

Side-Talk: Papparich Singapore

Hello! Another side-talk post today haha. Visited Papparich at Star Vista with my sister about a month ago. I remembered that my sister submitted her thesis on that day and I was in school…studying alone. Usually I would be quite productive in school…but during my final year, school did not feel as conducive as before :/. Anyway back to the topic of Papparich, decided to go there for very early dinner because the drinks in the menu look so good.

I met my sister at Star Vista itself and then we settled at Papparich. Papparich location at Star Vista is quite obscure.  Had to walk around for quite some time until we found it. Papparich has really nice interior, unfortunately the air-con was not working on that day. Its interior has this vintage coffee shop feel to it. Papparich also kinda remind me of Old Town White Coffee, which also originates from Malaysia, except that Papparich has better food that Old Town White Coffee in my opinion.

Side-Talk: Halal Omiyage (Souvenir) from Japan

As mentioned in my previous post, my eldest sister went to Japan in December 2014 and brought back lots of Japan face products. While she was there, she whatsapp us to help to her search online for halal mochi which she can bring as souvenirs for her muslim colleague. I look up on google and do not find any halal kochi that is already in Japanese market. However, I did find out that there are halal omiyage out there are halal certified by Nippon Asia Halal Association (NAHA). Interesting huh. Below is the halal logo of NAHA.

One of the product is "Arare", which is a type of rice crackers. It is product by Osama Rice Cracker Co. Pte Ltd. Do note that not all of their products are halal. So what is "Arare"? According to wikipedia, it is japanese confectionary made from glutinous rice. The difference from senbei is its size and shape. In other words it is fried mochi.

Side-talk: Swensen's Ice Cream Mooncake (Moon Struck) 2014

Walking around in malls during Mooncake Festivity always makes me salivates, from all the mooncake fairs happening at the atrium. We decide to join the festivity by buying moon cakes this year for our family to share even though we don't celebrate Mooncake festival because we are not ethnic chinese. But it is not just any mooncake, it is ice-cream mooncake (a less traditional kind).

The moon cakes are packed in a box and filled with dry ice in order to prevent it from melting during your journey home. It also came with a free cooler bag. Just a tip when you are cutting the moon cakes, do let it thaw for about 5 minutes before you cut, or you will have difficulty cutting like I did. My knife got stuck in the moon cake.

Side Talk: Anime Recommendations 2013/2014

I first watch anime when I was in secondary school. I remembered my 'first ever' anime was Naruto and Bleach. I did watch One Piece and Gundam when I was in primary school but I don't consider as my first ever anime since I watched them because it was shown on a local broadcast TV... in order words I watched without knowing they originate from Japan. Now I am 22 years old and I still watch anime, most people are shocked when they find out I watch animes.

What are my requirement when deciding if I should watch an anime or not? I look at their animation or should I say drawing, if they are to my liking. I like certain style of anime, and the characters have to look handsome haha. I might still watch the anime if the characters do not look the way I like, provided they have really good story lines HAHA!

As stated in the title, I would like to recommend anime that I have watched or still watching this year. They are not in any specific order.

1. Soul Eater Not

Genre: Comedy, Slice of life, Supernatural
In term's of its animation/drawing, it is really not the style I will like. I have low expectation on this one, but it turn out really good. Don't worry if you have not watched the main series of Soul Eater, I did not watch it too but I was able to understand the story fully.

The first half of the story is more about how these three students are adapting in their Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA). There will be a turning point in the story which explains the occurrence in the first half.
